Clinical Supervision

Supervision is an important part of a therapists practice and ongoing supervision is often required by Counselling and Psychotherapy organisations such as the BACP, UKCP and NCS. I can offer fortnightly or monthly supervision, 1-2-1 or group work. I work to the Seven-Eyed Supervision model, developed by Peter Hawkins and Robin Shohet.

For me supervision is all about the relationship and offering you the kind of support you are looking for, this would involve tailoring my approach to you and your needs.

I can offer a supportive, kind, non-judgemental space to help you explore your therapeutic work. I am relaxed, fun, yet professional. I have extensive experience with a wide range of clients, having worked with both adults and young people. I am a qualified supervisor with a diploma in clinical supervision. I am also currently a Counselling Tutor for level 2 and 3 CPCAB students.

I have been working in private practice since 2018 and worked for several agencies as a therapist including Place 2 Be, St Christopher’s Hospice and METRO charity.

Much of my work is with members of the LGBTQIA+ communities, being queer myself this is something I am incredibly passionate about. I am also neurodiverse and embrace my different way of thinking and use it to better my clinical and supervision work.

The aim of Supervision with me:

The overall purpose of supervision is firstly to monitor and promote the welfare of your clients. However, I do not forget you in this, meaning we need to consider your needs as a therapist.

I aim to help you focus on the development of your professional identity and competence. This might involve your work as a volunteer, in an organisation or within private practice.

What you can expect:

We would meet fortnightly or monthly depending on your preference, each session will be at a mutually agreed time.

Sessions will be held online via Zoom, the link for Zoom will be emailed to you along with a reminder the day before your supervision session.

I will encourage and facilitate the development of an effective working supervisor / supervisee relationship.

I will encourage on-going development opportunities and facilitate professional development when relevant.

I aim to offer support and challenge as appropriate and aim to identify a range of options for you to consider and I will intervene when a client’s welfare is at risk.

I will monitor adherence to ethical guidelines and professional standards and provide consultation where necessary.

What I ask of you:

Be open and contribute to the development of an effective working relationship. Share what needs sharing, it could be something you need help with, something you are proud of, or something that you feel wasn’t you at your best – that’s okay, I am here for it all.

Be prepared for supervision with a rough idea of what you want from each session and be prepared to give and receive feedback.

What People Say

Tom has been a fantastic supervisor for me, making me feel comfortable to be myself. He is professional and yet incredibly easy to talk to and makes supervision pleasurable.

I always feel challenged in my thinking and ways of working best for my clients, and yet reassured of my skills as a counsellor.  He shows great knowledge in the theory and helps me to look at different ways of working.  I would happily recommend him as a supervisor.

Tom creates a supportive relationship where I have space to analyse my work in a safe environment.

In the short time we’ve worked together, I’ve become more confident in my practice through his guidance.

I look forward to a long supervision relationship with Tom that is engaging and challenging in equal measure.

Tom always provides an ethical, warm and holding environment. His vast knowledge has enabled me to grow and develop confidence as a trainee, within my modality.
